Feedback from Mentor received on 7/30/2018

Wade has developed “supportive, collaborative, and trusting relationships with colleagues” on his teaching team and in the social studies cohort. In team planning, he takes initiative, but is also careful to make space for others’ ideas and incorporate their suggestions. He is a supportive co-teacher in the classroom and is thoughtful about following group norms. Throughout the course of BSHS, Wade continued to actively work to develop maintain “supportive, collaborative, and trusting relationships with colleagues.” Wade consistently makes a point of letting his co-teachers, myself and others in the program know that he is appreciative of their support and of having the opportunity to learn from them. Wade consistently made specific revisions to his plans based on the feedback I provided and has incorporated strategies from his literacy and methods classes.

Reflection on Mentor Feedback:

This feedback from my mentor towards the end of Brown Summer High School indicates my proficiency with respect to professionalism. I have strived to be as supportive as a team member as possible, both in assisting with lesson plans and helping out during classes that I am not actively leading. I have supported my coteachers during their lessons by creating Student Engagement trackers as well.

Professionalism is an ethos that allows me to interact fairly and equitably with all my students and all those who are supporting me day in and day out. Whether it be the students in my classroom, the peers in my school, or the administration, it is my job to build relationships that are professional and productive. At BSHS, the numerous supports that were built for us enabled us to best serve our students and our community. Whether it be showing appreciation or responding constructively to feedback, professionalism guides all my interactions.
