Hello! My name is Victoria Pang and I am an aspiring Secondary Social Studies teacher. I will be student-teacher in an urban public school as a Master's of Arts in Teaching (MAT) candidate at Brown University for the 2013-4 academic year. During my summer semester at Brown, I completed rigorous coursework in Literacy and Social Studies Methods. In addition, I co-taught a summer enrichment program called Brown Summer High School, drawing a diverse group of students from across the state of Rhode Island. 

 I come to teaching with a social justice focus and the desire to promote critical and culturally relevant pedagogy. I strive to create inclusive classroom spaces where students of all backgrounds are respected and heard.  

My undergraduate thesis at Swarthmore College in Political Science and Educational Studies was on the evolution of bipartisanship in federal education policy from George H.W. Bush to President Obama. I focus on how the rhetoric of standards and accountability has carried through each respective administration in similar reiterations. I come to my research question with an interest in how standards and accountability disproportionately affect students of color, urban teachers, and struggling schools.
