Using the Standards!
As a beginning teacher, Brown’s Practice Based Standards have guided me in the practices I use inside of the classroom, with students and community members, and outside of the classroom, in planning and professional development. Using Brown’s Practice Based Standards has allowed me to begin my career as a teacher who practices self-reflection and self-awareness. The next section of my portfolio, “The Standards 1-7,” lists the components of each of the standards. These components serve as a check-list for my daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly practices—I can go back to the Standards each day and formulate a new goal for my practice in the classroom or in my planning. The section of my portfolio labeled “Meeting and Exceeding Standards” serves as my own self-reflection of the seven Standards.
