     Understanding our students' literacy is something that became a critical skill once we began our teaching practicum and began to comprehend the broad range of learners we had in our classroom. To benefit this, we undertook a class with Dr. Eileen Landay, Literacy Across the Curriculum. In this class, we focused on English Language Learners and students with specific learning needs, using the texts Making Content Comprehensible for Secondary English Learners(Echevarria, et al.) and Inclusion Strategies for Secondary Classrooms:Keys for struggling Learners (M.C. Gore.)

     As part of this class, we were required to undertake a Whole Class Literacy Profile, to create a broad analysis of our classroom and their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This research project was conducted using data collected from a whole class reading assessment, provided by Dr. Landay, as well as comprehension questions created by my team teachers and I. There was also a literacy survey created by Dr. Landay and Brown Summer High School which was used to assess not only students' skills, but their interests and engagement in literacy. These sources, paired with informal assessments and observations of the class, helped us to create a cohesive picture of our students and their strikingly broad range of literacies.
