On our final day of class, we asked students to complete appreciation notes, in addition to a survey regarding our specific strengths and weaknesses. These offered a glimpse into what we had done well during Brown Summer High School and most importantly, what students look for in their teachers. The sixth note is a letter I received from a student in my small-group advisory for whom I worked with on college preparation. Although this student had struggles in school, he had very high goals which I am confident that he is on the right path to achieving. These appreciation notes remind me of the reason I strive to be a teacher; to make a different for every student that I have the privilege to teach, and to be a positive influence in their young lives.
