Creating a rubric for three different projects was difficult, however we wanted to make sure that we assessed our students on the same standards. It was important to create a standard foundation with such a differentiated assignment and classroom. We gave our students the rubric ahead of time, and then continually referred back to it during the workshops. With three different mediums for the projects and three team teachers, it was natural to split up the class into groups by teachers. This worked extraordinarily well as we could each draw on our strengths, but in the future, it will be important to offer differentiation and give each student the necessary instruction with just one teacher in the room. While grading these summative assessments, it was important to stick to the rubric and always draw back to it, rather than get overwhelmed in the incredible artwork, or speaking skills, or writing fluency. We wanted to ensure that our students were incorporating all that we learned in the class which is how we hoped to assess with our rubric, as if we focused primarily on skill, we would be harming those of lower learning levels, which was never our intention.
