This is the final essay from the graduate course that I took as part of my study abroad program: Brown +1 in Edinburgh, Scotland at the University of Edinburgh. Back at Brown, this essay won me the First Place Preston Gurney Literary Prize in Cultural Criticism. It also provided rich material for my honors thesis.
