  • Engaging Students in Learning
  • Using Assessments in Instructions
  • Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness

Creating the Unit Plan helped my team teacher and I put check-points of understanding and what we wanted students to have understood by a certain time. Having done that in the beginning, definitely helped us make sure we had checks for understanding whether in exit slip format or an official assessment with a rubric. Nonetheless, we learned quickly that some of these prior check-points we had established had to be changed throughout the unit to match student progress, but also to make sure we keep being on track for the summative assessment.

The artifacts you will see for this domain are three different forms of assessments we created: self-assessment, formative assessment and summative assessment. The first two we did not present them as assessments, but the last one we did. We were intentional in not naming the first two "assessments," because we wanted to see what students would create when not having the pressure of this title. For each of these, we were able to see students' strengths and creativity. It also helped us see how students approach certain tasks and how long they take in drafting. This was essential information to know when creating the summative assessment and how to scaffold and differentiate it.
