Roman History 1: Rise and Fall of the Imperial Republic
This course provided me with a survey of the Roman republic through primary source. It particularly looked at Roman historiography and other aspects of Roman culture. For this course we had to write a final research paper which is posted below. I wrote on the position of Roman women in the late republic, particularly Cicero's wife Terentia, who can be seen through his surviving letters.
This course prepared me to teach because it taught me a great deal about the Roman republic and because it taught me to look at history differently. I started to see many parts of history as attempts to solve problems that the people were facing, which to me was a new way of looking at history but one I think high school students can relate to well and can make understanding the big picture of historical time periods easier.
