This is a collaborative activity I asked the students to connect what they had learned about Christianity’s development in Rome, the unit we were finishing, to the essential question for the unit we were moving into on world religions. Students were asked to create a presentation of any kind to answer that big question: “How do belief systems and society shape each other?” with a thesis statement/argument for an answer that could be supported by what they learned about the interaction of religion and society in the Roman empire.  Students were highly successful at doing this and I think the immediate scaffolding steps I had them do in groups as outlined on the worksheet below were very important for that. Below I’ve also included one of the directors observation notes since he happened to be observing my class that day, note how he discusses how engaged students were for the entire period.
