The spreadsheet is a list of the quarter 3 grades for both of my 9th grade classes. It is important to note that several of the students who received Fs in both classes do not attend school regularly. Overall, the homework (HW) averages for students are quite low. Given that homework is 20% of the total grade, many students’ grades suffered because they did not complete homework consistently. Also, the classwork (CW) grades are quite low. I gave students a classwork grade approximately 2 or 3 times a week. Even though my mentor teacher had an established system for making up work after an absence, students rarely asked about or stayed after school to receive assistance on missing work. In the future, if I find that my students are not completing homework, I would like to start an incentive system so that students earn a homework pass when they complete a certain number of homework assignments.
