I designed the lesson above to help my students analyze the relationship between George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. I modeled how to complete the venn diagram, then students worked in pairs to complete the rest. When I planned the lesson, I knew I wanted my students to choose a word to describe the relationship between the characters and write a paragraph using evidence from the text. I anticipated that my students with IEPs would struggle to come up with a word. I decided to provide them with a word bank from which they could choose from a word that they thought best describes the relationship.  All my students were able to complete the assignment without spending too much time trying to come up with a word. Providing several words for them to choose from allowed them to spend more time on the writing of the paragraph.
