I utilized reflections to get a sense of how my students were doing in the class. In addition to the informal and formal assessments, I wanted to hear from them about how they were making sense of the material. I found that when I gave students a list of topics we covered during the week, students, especially the one above, were very specific and honest about what they understood and what they still needed help with. I used the reflections to plan for the following week. If several students said they did not understand a topic that we covered, I returned to the topic the following week to review it.
