Creating this unit plan was a bit challenging given that I started off with one text, the book that we were reading composed of slave narratives.  I had to pull out the critical points from this text and then fill in the gaps with the information students needed to know in addition.  It was important to add points about the African Slave Trade, oppression and internalized oppression as frameworks and additional texts on slavery.  However, I think the unit plan came together rather nicely and was pretty strong in getting students to understand what the experience of slavery was like for black Americans.
