Calling out microaggressions in the classroom was arguably one of the norms students upheld the most.  Students would call out each other constantly and even call out myself and my co-teacher on microaggressions in the classroom.  These moments were really important because they helped create space to talk about issues of race, class, gender and sexual orientation in the classroom, when there otherwise might be a silence around how these things play out.  Microaggressions as a framework of discrimination also connected really well to the discrimination that marginalized groups faced in society, so we were often able to make those connections to the content as well.
