For their maps on the African slave trade, students first had to draw the outlines of all the geography including everything from the major continents to the smaller islands. Students then had to label all of the relevant places and peoples on the map.  After that students added color and a color-coded key, a title and a description.  Student pairs generally worked well together but some needed redirection to keep them focused on the task at hand.  Above I provide three of the most elaborate maps and the model I provided for students to reference.
