Group 2: Images of Beauty Then and Now

Things to get done:

o       Collect survey data.

                                    [student 1] and [student 2]: what did you find out?

o       Share research on beauty pageants.

                                    [student 3]: when was first non-white Miss America?

                                    [student 4]: what can you tell us about the history of the pageant?

o       Develop an outline for your presentation.

                                    What are the major components? 

                                    What order will they go in?

o       Begin to make collage. What images should go in collage? Why?

o       Each take 5 minutes and write thoughts on the question of beauty image.

                                    Answering the following questions, for example:

What is beauty image?

                                    Is it different in public images (advertising and pageants)?

                                    What kind of beauty is displayed in Miss America?

                                    How has it changed over time?

                                    Are these changes important? Why or why not?

o       After you have written independently, share your ideas and collect your thoughts in one place.

Remember:

Your project needs to have a “what will you do?” component.

For example: You could write a letter to a pageant (like Miss America) explaining why you take issue with what they are doing or why you support what they are doing. 

You are each responsible for a 2 page written reflection piece. This should be about the content of your project and also about the process (how you worked in the group).
