Hello, and welcome to my page! My name is Abriana Mayer, and I am a current Masters of Arts in Teaching candidate at Brown University, concentrating in Secondary English (7th to 12th grade).

This portfolio is a brief look at my English classroom at Brown Summer High School in 2018. I co-taught a mixed-aged class of high schoolers with MacKenzie Abernethy, another English MAT candidate. Our focal text for the summer was Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi,  a historical fiction novel following two family lineages from colonization in eighteenth century Ghana through the Transatlantic slave trade to life in present-day America. We supplemented this text with other poems, art pieces, and videos that would bring out themes of power, inequity, and inheritance that were central to our curriculum. In this portfolio, you will see everything from community building activities to student reflections about our focal text to final assessments and reflections from some of our students.

Feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/abriana-mayer/ ). I am happy to talk to and learn from anyone, so please do not hesitate to say hello!
