Car Shows
The car show that pioneered the scene was called Import Show Off, and was the first of its kind. Currently, Hot Import Nights (HIN), Extreme Autofest, and NOPI are the most notable car shows, where HIN is the largest with over 20 events in the U.S. During these shows, several modified cars are showcased, and various products for car modification such as speakers and sound systems are sold.
Music, Models, and Merchandise
Car shows have become a prime space at which sponsors gather to promote their merchandise. During the shows, import models are present to pose with cars. These models are called "booth babes" and have gained immense popularity in the import scene. Car shows have also become an outlet for DJs and music producers to showcase their work. The genres are mostly hip-hop, urban, and electronica, and many times the shows feature DJs spinning up-and-coming tracks, go-go dancers, as well as b-boys. The lights and sounds that go along with the music scene enhance the experience of car shows to created an event that goes beyond flaunting imported cars, but rather promoting entirely new subculture.
